MARCELO BUCATER

Marcelo Bucater is a drummer, percussionist, and educator from São Paulo, Brazil, who has been based in Los Angeles since 2013.

He currently serves as Chair of the Drum Department at the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM), where he teaches both private and group lessons. 

As a bandleader, Marcelo released the album After the Storm with his quartet in September 2024. That same year, he released the EP First Flight with the Triple Shot Trio. His music is available on all major streaming platforms.

Since 2024, Marcelo has been performing and recording with artist and producer Adrian Younge. In addition to contributing to Younge’s recent projects, Marcelo has toured internationally with him, performing at renowned venues and festivals including Lincoln Center in New York, North Sea Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Uber Jazz Festival, Brosella Festival, Le Guess Who? Festival, and many others.

Marcelo has also performed with a wide range of artists at some of the most iconic venues and events in the United States, including the Rose Bowl, Levi’s Stadium, MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Microsoft Theater, Hollywood Pantages Theatre, Pershing Square in Los Angeles, El Rey Theatre, the NAMM Show, Thalia Hall, the Queen Mary, The Mayan, and Disney California Adventure.

Over the course of his career, Marcelo has established himself as a versatile session and touring musician, recording and performing with artists across a broad spectrum of musical styles. His adaptability and musicality have taken him around the world, working in jazz, soul, Brazilian music, Latin music, pop, funk, and beyond.

His credits include Carrie Underwood (51st ACM Awards), Arthur Verocai, Adrian Younge (Jazz Is Dead), Keiko Matsui, Ronnie Laws, Ladybug Mecca (Digable Planets), Tinto Tango (Latin Grammy winner), Otmaro Ruiz and Catina de Luna – Lado B Project, Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, Carlos Dafé, Adam Levy, Darek Oles, Loren Oden, Natália Spadini, Shandy and Eva, Alicia Camiña, Koobong Ensemble, and Phat Cat Swinger, among others.
Marcelo holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
